| Brooklyn Brewery -- 15 Minute Interview |
In
this week's interview, TrueNYC talked with Steve Hindy, co-founder
of Brooklyn Brewery. Brooklyn Brewery produces high-end beers
for the New York City area and beyond.
Steve began his career as a foreign correspondent for Associated
Press in the Middle East covering stories such as the Iranian
Revolution and the Iran/Iraq War. While abroad, he learned
to brew beer from home brewers, as alcohol is illegal in many
countries in the Middle East. In the interview, Steve talks
about how he transformed from an Associated Press journalist
to an entrepreneur. In 1986 he convinced his neighbor, Tom
Potter, to partner with him in the beer industry. You will
hear how he talked Milton Glaser into creating his classic
logo, persuaded people to invest in his business, and how
he used the media to his advantage. In addition, he tells
about his dealings with the mob, their $1M hiccup trying to
start a dotcom, and finally how he sold his distribution business
for $11M.
